The Nanaimo Ice Centre Rink 1 is located at 750 Third Street The Nanaimo Ice Centre and opened in 2006. The arena has 400 seats in the stands. The NHL-sized rink is used for recreation ice programs, community events (both ice & dry floor) and the home of the Nanaimo Buccaneers, The VIU Mariners, Nanaimo Minor Hockey Association, and Nanaimo District Lacrosse Association. The rink surface is fully accessible with or without ice.

NIC Lounge 2 can be closed off for private parties and meetings and overlooks Rink 2. A beautiful fireplace (must call maintenance to have it turned on) with artistic rockwork is featured in one corner and two full walls of windows are also present in this space, with a third wall of windows overlooking the ice. The room is always equipped with 3 bar height tables, 12 bar height chairs, 8 lounge chairs, and four coffee tables.
