Pressure Reducing Valve Station Upgrades

Back to map

Project Description

The City of Nanaimo manages a extensive water distribution system that includes Pressure Reducing Valve Stations (PRVs) as critical infrastructure to maintain safe operating pressures for residents. As part of the City asset management program, three new PRV Stations are scheduled for construction in the summer of 2026:

• Blueback Road (between Cambridge and Kingfisher)

• Tahoe Avenue (between Placid and Michigan)

• Ninth Street (end of Ninth at Parkway Trail)

Work at these locations will include the installation of an above ground kiosk, concrete slab, piping and valving, asphalt apron, watermain tie-ins and surface restoration. The contractor will be constructing all three locations in succession with connections to the water system completed at the end. As a result, you may see work stopping and then resuming after several weeks of inactivity.

General Considerations

• During this construction period traffic disruptions will be limited. Expect a working day road closures of Blueback Road, and single lane alternating traffic at Tahoe Avenue.

• Every effort will be made to keep local disruptions to a minimum.

• Construction signs will be posted and flagpersons will be on duty to manage the traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians.

• Please exercise caution, obey all signage placed for your safety and follow the directions of the flagpersons on duty.

• If you have young children, please advise them of the dangers and limited visibility of heavy equipment and trucks.
