City expresses deep thanks for community support following Boxing Day fire

The City of Nanaimo extends sincere thanks to residents, community groups and partners for the outpouring of support offered to those displaced by the Value Lodge Motel fire on December 26. The care and concern shown by members of our community reflects the best of Nanaimo in a difficult time.

At this time, the City and community partners do not have the capacity to receive or store donated clothing or goods. The City, Province and community partners have ensured that all displaced individuals have access to safe, warm accommodation, food and clothing vouchers as needed. Temporary lodging has been arranged and support continues to be provided through coordinated efforts.

Continued coordination with agencies on longer-term housing and stabilizing supports remains a priority as affected residents transition through recovery.

Residents wishing to support those affected are encouraged through monetary donations. Information on how to support those displaced will be shared in future news statements or on the City’s official Facebook page.
