City reminds people to stay off ice on local bodies of water

Summary

The City of Nanaimo is reminding the public that the ice on all lakes, ponds and water sources in Nanaimo is unsafe.

The following rules should always be followed to ensure ice safety:

  • The only safe ice is at a rink.
  • Never assume the ice is safe.
  • Never use ice for a shortcut.
  • Never go out onto ice after an animal or toy.

Signs are posted at local park lakes, however this applies to all bodies of water.

Key Points

  • The ice on Nanaimo's lakes, ponds and waterways is not safe to walk on.
  • The only safe ice to use is at our ice rinks.
