Work Starting on Northfield/Boundary/Highway 19A Intersection

Delays and traffic pattern changes can be expected starting February 20

Work on upgrading the intersections of Northfield Road/Boundary Avenue and Highway 19A/Northfield Road is set to begin on Tuesday, February 20. Commuters should expect traffic patterns to change throughout construction, are advised to use care and encouraged to consider alternate routes.

Key Points

  • During this construction period, traffic disruptions should be expected and detours may be in effect. Access to Northfield from Highway 19A will be closed at times throughout the project.
  • Construction signs will be posted and flagpersons will be on duty to assist with the traffic flow. Please exercise caution when nearing the construction zone, obey all signage placed for safety and follow the directions of the flagpersons on duty.
  • The project will be completed in phases with work on Highway 19A anticipated to be complete by June 30 and work on Northfield Road and Boundary Avenue anticipated to be complete by December 2018.
  • The City of Nanaimo and the Ministry of Transportation have agreed to evenly share the costs of the project.
