Pet owners reminded to renew dog licences for 2018

As 2017 draws to an end, the City of Nanaimo reminds pet owners to renew their dog's licence. A dog licence and accompanying identification tag are required for every dog in Nanaimo over the age of 12 weeks. Licenses are sold for $30.00 with a $5.00 discount on purchases made on or before February 28 of the licencing year. If a resident becomes the owner of a new dog after July 1 of the licensing year, the fee is further reduced to $20.00.

“Renewing your dog's licence is part of the annual responsibilities for pet owners,” says Diane Hiscock, Revenue Services Manager, “It acts as a critical piece of ID and, in the event that a lost or missing dog is found, the tag can be used to contact the owner.”

Please remember to renew this important licence by February 28 to take advantage of the discount. Dog licences can be purchased at the City of Nanaimo Services and Resource Centre (411 Dunsmuir Street), Oliver Woods Community Centre (6000 Oliver Road) and the Nanaimo Animal Shelter (1260 Nanaimo Lakes Road). New licenses must be purchased in person, renewals may be purchased in person or online at www.nanaimo.ca.
