Stubborn Fire on Selby Street in Abandoned Home

Summary

On March 9th at approximately 10 a.m., Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews responded to reports of a structure fire in the 200 block Selby Street. Crews arrived to find a fully involved single family dwelling with black smoke billowing upwards. Once crews were able to gain control of the fire, they conducted a search finding no people inside the abandoned home. The fire proved to be stubborn with crews working to extinguish hot spots throughout the morning.

Selby street between Wentworth and Fitzwilliam was closed for the morning through till mid afternoon. The Fire Prevention Division has begun investigating the cause.
