Building Permit Wait Times

Residents to be aware that permit processing times could impact their projects

Summary

The City of Nanaimo Building Section is currently experiencing higher than normal permit activity. During the month of May permit construction values increased 35 per cent over this time last year - the City processed 179 single family dwelling permit applications as compared to 111 units in 2013. Due to this increase, the City is now experiencing longer than average wait times for permit issuance (currently at 5 weeks). Steps are being taken to lower the permit processing time but in the interim, residents and businesses are being asked to plan accordingly when preparing their projects.

Link to Strategic Plan: Through the release of timely information, making builders aware that permit delays could impact them economically.

Key Points

  • The City of Nanaimo Building Inspection Section is taking steps to reduce the wait time for building permits.
  • People could be impacted economically if they are not prepared for a longer than normal wait for their building permits.
