Update on Actions Taken to Address Tent City

On May 25, 2018, occupants of the tent city located at 1 Port Drive were issued trespass notices to vacate the property. Since that time, the City has taken a number of steps to address the situation, recognizing the concerns of the residents and nearby businesses. The RCMP, City Bylaw officers and the Fire Commissioners' Office have been involved. The safety and well-being of our citizens is a priority. Council does not support the continuation of the tent city. The City is following necessary process to resolve this situation as quickly as possible.

Council is concerned about the homelessness situation in Nanaimo and is committed to working toward a long-term solution. We will provide additional updates to residents next week.
