Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Fleet Maintenance Mechanic. Reporting to the Fleet Maintenance Foreman or Sub-Foreman, the incumbent performs major overhauls, minor repairs, and welding to various equipment, repairs or overhauls engine and power train component parts, carries out road tests, performs preventative maintenance inspections, signs off work as a Commercial Vehicle Inspector, services the various vehicles and equipment, and writes repair orders and parts order requests.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, possess a valid BC Trade Qualification or inter-provincial Heavy Duty Mechanic, Commercial Transport Mechanic Qualification and have a minimum of 2 years’ related experience.

A valid BC Provincial Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Certificate as well as a valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement is required.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position.  $39.88 per hour - after Probation (Jan 2019 Rate), based on a 40 hour work week.  A comprehensive benefit package is included.
