Harewood Centennial Playground Improvements

Harewood Centennial Park has become a popular destination park for families in our City for many years. In 2010, City Council adopted an improvement plan for Harewood Centennial Park to ensure that the outdated park amenities were improved to meet the recreational needs and desires of the changing community.

Playground upgrades were completed in 2015 which saw two additional playground spaces for children ages 5 to 12. These improvements included:

• Climbing structures

• Slides

• Spinning elements

• 100-foot zip line

• Wood Fibar safety surfacing

• Perimeter safety fencing

• Picnic areas • Park seating

  • Progress

The City of Nanaimo, in partnership with the Lions Club of Nanaimo, will be upgrading the existing playground area in a two-phase project to improve accessibility, safety and inclusion to include:

    Phase 1 (2019-2020):
    • Upgraded safety surface to Wood Fibar (completed in December 2019)

    • Improved access to playground

    Phase 2:
    • New accessible and inclusive play
    features
    • Rubber safety surfacing to improve
    access throughout the play space
