Bastion Lighting Colour Orange on September 30 for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

Time and date:

The day honours the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities in Canada. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. The creation of this federal statutory holiday was through Legislative amendments made by Parliament. On June 3, 2021, Bill C-5, An Act to amend the Bills of Exchange Act, the Interpretation Act and the Canada Labour Code (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation) received Royal Assent.

STADIUM DISTRICT 10:00AM - 4:00PM

Stadium District is the combination of Rotary Bowl, Q'unq'inuqwstuxw (NDSS Community Field), Serauxmen, Nanaimo Aquatic Centre, and the Nanaimo Ice Centre (745 Third Street).

September 30, 2022 will mark the second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation; this will be a day to remember and honour First Nations, Inuit, and Métis residential school survivors and their communities.

To acknowledge the importance of September 30, Snuneymuxw First Nation, the City of Nanaimo, and Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools invite you to join us at Nanaimo's Stadium District (745 Third Street) to partake in a day that will honour residential survivors, children that never returned home, and families that are living with the lasting impacts of the residential school system. This day will bring community together to give an opportunity to listen, learn, and work together to create a better future.

Free activities will take place throughout Stadium District. These activities will include cultural performances on the mainstage and demonstrations/clinics provided by local sports teams at select facilities. There will also be a variety of market vendors and food trucks with yummy treats for purchase.
