Rise and Report

Council appointed Kris Sillem to the Board of Variance for a three-year term.
Section 7a

Presentations

Colin Stansfield, Chief Executive Officer, Nanaimo Prosperity Corporation, provided Council with a semi-annual update from the Nanaimo Prosperity Corporation.
Section 8a

Carly Pereboom, Executive Director, Tourism Nanaimo, provided Council with a semi-annual update from Tourism Nanaimo.
Section 8b

Delegations

Raelyn Crossley spoke regarding the City’s parking regulations.
Section 11a

Lois Powell spoke regarding the proposed municipal boundary extension’s alternative approval process.
Section 11b

Reports

Council directed staff to submit a grant application to the Growing Canada’s Community Canopies program seeking $140,000 in funding to update the City’s Urban Forestry Management Strategy.
Section 12a

A development variance permit was issued for 3135 Mexicana Road, to reduce the minimum parking requirements for a proposed addition to Wellington Secondary School.
Section 13a

An application to rezone 2565 Departure Bay Road, to facilitate a multi-family development, was referred back to staff to have discussions with the applicant to limit the floor area ratio (FAR) to be consistent with the concept plans submitted.
Section 13b

Bylaw Updates

"Highway Closure and Dedication Removal Bylaw 2026 No. 7448" passed third reading.

Correspondence and Other Business

Correspondence will be sent to Island Coastal Economic Trust, indicating support for advancing legislation to modernize the Island Coastal Economic Trust.
Section 15a

Council indicated support for the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS)’s orphan dyke advocacy letter to the Honourable David Eby, Premier of BC.
Section 15b

Council directed Staff to proceed with a Development Cost Charge (DCC) Reduction Bylaw, with a 50% DCC reduction for not-for-profit rental and supportive housing.
Section 17a

Council:

  • Endorsed the “Forestry is a Solution” campaign.
  • Encouraged community members to visit forestryisasolution.com to sign the petition and send a letter to their MLA, Minister of Forests, Premier and Official Opposition of Forest Critics.
  • Directed staff to share information about Forestry is a Solution through the City’s official communication channels.
