Council adopts a new City Plan: Nanaimo ReImagined.

Summary

On Monday, July 4, 2022, Nanaimo City Council passed the third and final reading of the City Plan Bylaw 2022 No. 6600.

City Plan Bylaw 2022 No. 6600 is the result of the REIMAGINE NANAIMO process that involved the input of thousands of Nanaimo citizens. City Plan: Nanaimo ReImagined is a comprehensive approach to community planning that goes beyond the minimum requirements of a standard Official Community Plan under the Local Government Act. This document will serve as the City's Official Community Plan (OCP); Parks, Recreation, Culture and Wellness Plan; Transportation Plan; Activity Mobility Plan; Climate Action and Resiliency Plan; and Accessibility and Inclusion Plan.

Implementation of the goals outlined in City Plan: Nanaimo ReImagined will be supported by two key documents, an Integrated Action Plan and a Monitoring Strategy, that are set to be finalized by spring 2023. The Integrated Action Plan will bring together many short term, ongoing and long term projects and programs to implement the new City Plan. The Monitoring Strategy will use key indicators to track progress towards the goals. Robust monitoring will be vital to equip the community, staff and City Council with the information needed to respond to the evolving context of the community, determine whether the policies are being achieved and realign priorities as needed.
