Hammond Bay Area Utility & Transportation Upgrades

Utility Upgrades

The existing sanitary sewer pipes needed to be upsized in diameter due to existing sanitary sewer pipe capacity shortfalls and to accommodate population growth in the Hammond Bay area.

The sanitary sewer and residential sewer connections were upgraded at the following locations:~

     Turner Road between Tweedsmuir Crescent and Hammond Bay Road, over a length of 200m.

     Hammond Bay Road between Turner Road and Sealand Road, over a length of 730m. 

     McGirr Road between Hammond Bay Road and Thyme Place, over a length of 50m. 

The water distribution main was also upgraded on Turner Road over a length of 80m.

Transportation Upgrades

All the traffic signal poles, traffic signal heads and pedestrian crosswalks were replaced at the following locations:~

     Hammond Bay Road and the intersection of Turner Road and McGirr Road.

     Hammond Bay Road and the intersection of Rutherford Road.

Localized road asphalt repaving work was required along Hammond Bay Road between the intersections of Turner Road and Rutherford Road.

A new dedicated bike path was introduced at the following locations:~

     on the north side (westbound lane) of Hammond Bay Road between Kenwill Drive and McGirr Road. 

     on the north side (westbound lane) of Hammond Bay Road at the intersection of Rutherford Road. 

A new sidewalk was constructed on the north side (westbound lane) of Hammond Bay Road between Kenwill Drive and McGirr Road.

    The construction continued for a duration of 12 months and the project was virtually complete by the end of July 2026.

    The only outstanding work is some road line painting, bike lane signage and landscaping which is postponed until fall for a cooling weather.
