Hammond Bay Area Utility & Transportation Upgrades
Utility Upgrades
The existing sanitary sewer pipes need to be upsized in diameter due to existing sanitary sewer pipe capacity shortfalls and to accommodate population growth in the Hammond Bay area.
The sanitary sewer and water distribution main will be upgraded on Turner Road between Tweedsmuir Crescent and Hammond Bay Road, over a length of 200 metres.
Furthermore the sanitary sewer will be upgraded on Hammond Bay Road between Turner Road and Sealand Road, over a length of 730 metres.
In addition the sanitary sewer will be upgraded on McGirr Road between Hammond Bay Road and Thyme Place, over a length of 50 metres.
Transportation Upgrades
All the traffic signal poles and traffic signal heads are to be replaced at the junction of Hammond Bay Road and the intersection of Turner Road and McGirr Road.
Additionally all the traffic signal poles and traffic signal heads are to be replaced at the junction of Hammond Bay Road and the intersection of Rutherford Road.
Localized road asphalt repaving work will also be required along Hammond Bay Road between the intersections of Turner Road and Rutherford Road.
A small section of new multi use path shall be introduced on the north side (westbound lane) of Hammond Bay Road between Kenwill Drive and Turner Road.
Finally a small section of new multi use path shall be introduced on the north side (westbound lane) of Hammond Bay Road at the intersection of Rutherford Road.
- Progress
It is anticipated that construction work shall commence week beginning Monday June 16, 2025
The construction shall continue for a duration of 12 months and the anticipated completion date is July 2026.
To assist with installation of the new Hammond Bay Road sidewalk and bike lane (between Brickyard and McGirr) a temporary lane road closure will be necessary starting 15 June, 2026.
This work is expected to take 3 weeks to complete. Single lane alternating traffic will be in operation between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday.
In addition the Turner and Hammond Bay intersection traffic lights will be turned off and operated by traffic control personnel.
Asphalt road paving will take place week beginning 22 June, 2026 on the north side of Hammond Bay Road between Kenwill Drive and McGirr Road.
Drivers, cyclists and transit users should expect delays and where possible take an alternative route. To avoid the construction works entirely drivers should take Rutherford Road and Uplands Drive.
