$150,000 in grants were awarded to various community events to be held in the downtown area in 2018.

Development around Nanaimo
A bylaw to close a portion of Beadall Road to accommodate a 26-lot subdivision in exchange for part of the property located at 11 Roberta Road dedicated as parkland, passed two readings. A development permit was issued to a seniors congregate care housing development at 10 Buttertubs Drive and development variance permits were issued to a subdivision at 5341 Dunster Road and an accessory building with a secondary suite383 Hillcrest Avenue.

Protecting municipal water
A bylaw to require public and private property owners and lease holders to make upgrades to their plumbing systems to ensure the public water supply is protected passed three readings.
