School Site Acquisition Charges (SSAC)

School site acquisition charges are collected by local governments and transferred to school boards to help purchase land for new or expanded school sites. Once collected by the City of Nanaimo, funds are then transferred to the Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools (School District #68).

  • For single-family residential developments, these charges are collected at the subdivision approval stage.
  • For multi-family residential developments of two units or more, these charges are collected at building permit issuance.
  • Eligible developments, such as not-for-profit rental housing, may have charges reduced or waived.
