Applications open for City’s 2026 Social Planning Grants

Summary

On Sept. 8, 2025, the City of Nanaimo will be begin accepting applications for the 2026 Social Planning Grants Program. These grants aim to support initiatives that enhance social cohesion, address the root causes and effects of poverty, contribute to the vitality of our community and foster social inclusion and social equity. A total of up to $85,000 in funding is available. Typically, eligible organizations have received grants ranging from $2,500 to $30,000.

Eligible organizations include non-profit societies, recognized religious groups and/or neighbourhood associations that are based out of Nanaimo and/or propose a project that serves City of Nanaimo residents. Ongoing operational or administrative expenses cannot be funded through the Social Planning Grants program. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 8, 2025.

Past projects that have received funding have been for initiatives that improve community connectivity, mental health and well-being, life skills, social inclusion, food security, and healthy relationships and opportunities for youth.
