AAP begins for park dedication removal for portion of Elaine Hamilton Park

Summary

The Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to gain residents' permission to remove park dedication from a portion of Elaine Hamilton Park, located at 1631 Naylor Crescent, begins today. The portion of parkland to be removed would be dedicated as a road for the purpose of providing access to lands for future housing as part of the Sandstone development.

Elaine Hamilton Park consists of approximately 7.31 acres (2.96 hectares) of land. The proposed partial park dedication removal area, located at the north end of the park, is approximately 1.03 acres (0.417 hectares). The existing washroom/fieldhouse facility will need to be removed for the road to be built; however, a replacement facility will be rebuilt in the park by the developer.

For those who are in favour of the project, no action is required. Eligible voters in Nanaimo will have a 33-day period to voice their opposition to the removal of park land dedication from a portion of 1631 Naylor Crescent and may do so by filling out an elector response form available at City Hall, or on the City website.

As in an election, each eligible voter is permitted one response. Completed forms must be received by the deadline of 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025. Details on how to submit a completed form can be found on the City’s Alternative Approval Process page: www.nanaimo.ca/goto/aap.

Quotes

"An AAP provides a number of ways for eligible electors to submit forms expressing their opposition, and plenty of time to do so. We encourage those interested in learning more to review the information on the City website."
