Alternative Approval Process Update

Late last week, City of Nanaimo staff identified an error in the Alternative Approval Process (AAP) for the Nanaimo Operations Centre Phase One Borrowing Bylaw.

During an AAP process, the legislation requires Elector Response Forms to be made available on the day of the first Notice. In this instance, forms were made available on first day of the AAP, eight days later (on January 18, 2024).

This afternoon, Mayor and Council directed staff to pursue legal advice and options for next steps. There will be a Special Council meeting to be held as soon as practicable to discuss this matter further.

The current Alternative Approval Process will continue until Council provides further direction.
