Park dedication removal for portion of Elaine Hamilton Park to go to AAP

Elector approval required to remove a portion of parkland in order to permit a new road right-of-way that would provide access to Sandstone development lands.

Summary

The City of Nanaimo will commence an Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to gain permission from residents to remove park dedication from a portion of Elaine Hamilton Park located at 1631 Naylor Crescent. The process begins Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. and will run until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025.

"Parks Dedication Amendment Bylaw 2025 No. 2255.01", which received three readings from Council on June 9, 2025, proposes to remove the parkland designation on a portion of 1631 Naylor Crescent. The portion of parkland to be removed would be dedicated as a road for the purpose of providing access to lands for future housing as part of the Sandstone development.

The proposed roadway would be to the north of the existing playing fields, creating a new road connection to the Sandstone lands located at 1750 Rajeena Way. The proposed new road would connect to the property at 1618 Extension Road.

Those who would like to learn more about the proposed development are invited to attend an open house which will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, between 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge located at 1356 Cranberry Ave.
