City correspondence affected by Canada Post strike

The Canada Post worker strike is affecting mailings from the City of Nanaimo including business licence renewal notices, user rate bills, vendor invoices and the 2025 Curbside Collection Calendar.  

Business Licence Renewals

Business licences expire on December 31 each year. Business owners can set up an online account to view and pay their business licence renewal, pay via their financial institution or pay in person at the Service and Resource Centre located at 411 Dunsmuir Street. For questions, please call Business Licencing at 250-755-4482.

User Rate Bills

To view and pay your user rate bill online, sign up for a MyCity account. You can also visit our Service and Resource Centre located at 411 Dunsmuir Street to pay your bill. Or, contact us by email at user.rates@nanaimo.ca or by phone at 250-755-4416 to receive an account balance for those who may choose not to sign up for MyCity or if you have questions. Please note that any outstanding invoices mailed prior to the postal strike not paid by December 31, 2024, will be transferred to property taxes effective January 1, 2025, and will accrue daily interest.

Property Tax Payments

Any current year outstanding balance will transfer to arrears effective January 1, 2025, and will accrue daily interest. Residents can check their account balance by enrolling for MyCity on the City’s website or contact our office at Property.Tax@nanaimo.ca. Property owners who have not yet claimed their Home Owner Grant, can visit www.gov.bc.ca/Homeownergrant.

Additional Dwelling Unit Declarations

Residents submitting a declaration for exemption from additional user rates charges can do so online, by email to User.Rates@nanaimo.ca or by calling 250-755-4525 ext. 2.

Dog Licence Applications/Renewals

Dog licences can be applied for on the City website or in person at Animal Control Services located at 1260 Nanaimo Lakes Road or at the Service and Resource Centre at 411 Dunsmuir Street. Renewals are due on February 28 of each year can be made online or in person at Animal Control Services located at 1260 Nanaimo Lakes Road or at the Service and Resource Centre at 411 Dunsmuir Street.

Vendor Payments

For vendors not set up for electronic deposit, please contact the Finance Department at 250-754-4251 Ext. 4210 to enroll in electronic funds transfer (EFT) or to request that your cheque be made available for pick up at 411 Dunsmuir Street, Nanaimo, BC.

2025 Curbside Collection Calendars

The 2025 calendars are ready and available in the following ways:

  • through the Nanaimo Recycles app (free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play)
  • on the City website - you can sign up to receive email notifications of collection days
  • printed versions can be picked up at the following City front desks:
    • Service and Resource Centre (411 Dunsmuir Street)
    • Beban Park (2300 Bowen Road)
    • Bowen Park (500 Bowen Road)
    • Nanaimo Aquatic Centre (741 Third Street)
    • Nanaimo Ice Centre (750 Third Street)
    • Oliver Woods Community Centre (6000 Oliver Road)
    • Nanaimo libraries  (a 25 cent fee will apply)
