City’s Supports for Vulnerable Populations

Council endorsed a plan to provide additional temporary washrooms and hand sanitizing facilities in the downtown.

Health and Housing Task Force meetings, which were previously put on hold along with all other City committee meetings, will reconvene in order to assist in facilitating planning for the City’s vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A motion was carried for the City to coordinate with the Nanaimo Homelessness Coalition, BC Housing and Island Health to ensure a coordinated emergency response for individuals experiencing homelessness in Nanaimo.

A motion was carried directing the Health and Housing Task Force to develop a food security plan to aid in providing safe and consistent meals for individuals experiencing homelessness and the vulnerable population.
