Residents invited to test wheeled solid waste carts

Summary

The City of Nanaimo has installed four informative displays aimed at helping residents learn more about the up coming automated solid waste collection program, Sort Toss Roll.

The displays are located in popular City facilities and provide information such as where and when the project will begin, how much it will cost and what can go in each cart. The displays also each feature an actual set of wheeled carts so that residents can see, touch and manoeuvre the carts before they are delivered to their homes.

Key Points

  • The displays are available until 27 October and are located at: Nanaimo Aquatic Centre, Beban Social Centre, The Service and Resource Centre and Bowen Park Complex.
  • An additional display will be added at Oliver Woods Community Centre on September 4th.
  • There is also a display available at Woodgrove Centre, near the food court. As well there are pop up displays at other malls throughout the City.
  • Staff will also be attending the VIEx on August 18,19 and 20 with an informational display.

Quotes

"I am excited for residents to able to come out to City facilities, learn more about the Sort Toss Roll project and take the wheeled carts for a test drive. So far we have been overwhelmed by the positive response from the majority of the community about this project. Residents seem to be looking forward to being able to dispose of yard waste at the curb and also to having a nice sturdy container to use for their recycling."
