Committee recommendations
The Fern Neighbourhood Park Improvement Project will receive $25,000 from the Partners in Parks Program and $20,000 from the Deferred Revenue Account for Future Partners in Parks Programs for improvements to the park. 

155 Commercial Street will receive a Heritage Façade Grant of $8,683.50 and to repaint the building exterior and recover its existing awnings.

The Mid-Island Youth and Community Development Cooperative will receive a Community Program Development Grant in the amount of $2,665 to assist in funding a community-based arts and food festival, Food-Art Fun.

The Nanaimo Deep Discovery Association will receive $65,000 from the Council Contingency Fund for a feasibility study.

Smoking Bylaw expanded 
A new Smoking Regulation Bylaw passed three readings. The bylaw includes a more expansive list of public areas where smoking is prohibited as well as a broader definition of smoking to include other substances in addition to tobacco and the methods by which they can be smoked.

New zoning for cannabis businesses 
A Zoning Amendment Bylaw to regulate the sale, production, processing and distribution of cannabis in the City of Nanaimo passed two readings.

Updating parking bylaw
The Bylaw to regulate required off-street parking within the city passed two readings.

Improving food truck program 
The Amendment Bylaw to improve business licensing for food trucks in Nanaimo with simplified licensing fees, increased flexibility of food cart locations, extended hours of operation, and modified locations passed three readings.

Development around Nanaimo
The sale of City-owned land (Lot 7 Encroachment Area) adjacent to 4134 Wellesley Avenue was approved for $23,000 plus costs. 

The rezoning application for 65 and 77 Chapel Street to allow for a 24-storey high-rise passed two readings. 

The amendment application for a covenant on the title of 6201 Oliver Road will proceed to Public Hearing. 

Development Permits were approved for a 36-unit condominium development at 119 Haliburton Street, a nine-unit multi-family development at 1217 Manzanita Place, an addition to 940 Hecate Street, a single residential dwelling at 3715 Lagoon Road. Devleopment Variance Permits were approved for 3715 Lagoon Road, 703 Hecate Street, 4461 Wellington Road, 380 Fifth Street, 4285 Jingle Pot Road and 422 Howard Avenue.

Recommendations for Liquor License
Council endorsed an application for a liquor license in the HeliJet passenger terminal at 100 Port Drive and for a ten-person picnic area at the Longwood Brewery on Boxwood Road.

Bylaw Updates
The Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw to include the Hospital Area Plan, Zoning Amendment bylaw for 580 St. Andrews Street and Zoning Amendment Bylaw for 215 Sabiston Street were adopted.
