This mural takes the form of a series of panels depicting nature scenes, each one reflecting tales and themes shared with the artist by local residents. Yvonne Vander Kooi’s murals and community projects can be viewed in several places around the city: Deverill Square Gyro 2 Park, Pawson Gyro Park, Robin's Park, and Oliver Woods Park.

Yvonne Vander Kooi's artistic practice has embraced community, collaboration, education, public art and studio work. Born and raised in Ontario, she received her BFA in Michigan, and has lived in Toronto and Vancouver. She currently lives in Nanaimo with her family and two dogs. She has participated in numerous group shows and in public art projects on Vancouver Island, and her work is held in private and corporate collections. She works as the Art Education Coordinator at the Nanaimo Art Gallery.
