Restoration of beach area to temporarily lower water levels in Colliery Dam Park

Lower lake closed for swimming while water is down

Summary

City crews are currently preparing to reduce the water level currently held in Colliery Dam Park as steps are taken to restore the beach area located near the south side of the lower lake. A water level reduction of 2 meters will be introduced in order to reestablish the beach area and install new sand. Additional work will include repairs to a set of stairs leading into the lake.

Key Points

While work is underway, water levels in the lower lake are expected to be drawn down between one to four days. The water will be returned to normal height following the completion of the project.
The lower lake will be closed to swimming during this period.
Please note - the newly exposed shoreline may be slippery; users of Colliery Dam Park are advised to approach the lower lake carefully while the water is down.
