Permissive Tax Exemptions

Notice: On September 25, 2023 Council gave first three readings to the "Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw 2023, No. 7368". The purpose of this bylaw is to exempt the organizations listed below from property taxes for the 2024 taxation year. The City of Nanaimo recognizes the significant value of volunteers, volunteer groups and agencies to the social, cultural, spiritual, educational and physical well-being of the community. 

A Permissive Tax Exemption, pursuant to Section 224 of the Community Charter, is a means for Council to support organizations within the community that further Council's strategic goals and objectives. 

Organizations that are successful in receiving a Permissive Tax Exemption will receive an exemption for three (3) years and must re-apply triennially.
