Natural Area Restoration Technician

Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Natural Area Restoration Technician. Under the direction of the Manager, Parks Operations, the incumbent is responsible for planning, undertaking and assigning maintenance and assessment work within the City’s natural area parks, developed parks and streetscapes.

Requirements

Applicants must have a degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or Natural Resource Management from a recognized educational institution, as well as a minimum of 2 years of related environmental restoration experience or biodiversity, natural resource or conservation planning/management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants must be eligible for membership with the College of Applied Biologists as a registered Biology Technologist (RBTech) or registered Professional Biologist (RPBio). Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week, and subject to Article 1(d) - Probationary Period as set out in the Union Collective Agreement. The hourly wage is $42.34, increasing to $44.57 after 60 working days (Jan 2025 Rates). The wage level for this position is subject to confirmation under a union/management jointly negotiated job evaluation plan.
