The Downtown Event Revitalization Funding Program (Downtown Event Grant) supports events and initiatives which attract residents and visitors to downtown, support vibrancy, stimulate business activity and align with other objectives of the City's Corporate Strategic Plan.
Funds can be used to assist with the costs of organizing and presenting public events and initiatives in downtown Nanaimo. The intention of the grant is to recognize the value that initiatives have in building vitality downtown and in enhancing Nanaimo's profile as a destination of choice. The grant serves as an incentive to event organizers to enhance, expand and improve their events. Applications are received once per year.
Apply for 2021 funding
We are no longer accepting applications from community organizations seeking financial assistance to support downtown Nanaimo events in 2021 through Downtown Event Grants (deadline was October 19, 2020).
In 2021, as our community recovers from COVID-19, applicants are encouraged to re-imagine and re-build their activities to ensure they are relevant and can be safely delivered. Applicants should consider the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 in their planning for 2021 and address how initiatives will comply with public health orders and other related guidelines.
Did you receive funds in previous years?
Important Note: Applicants who have received funding in previous years must provide a Final Report within 90 days of completion of the event or before a new funding request is submitted for consideration (view the summary of 2020 grants awarded). Failure to provide a final report will render new applications ineligible.
COVID & Your 2020 City Grant
Recipients of 2020 Downtown Event and Revitalization Grants who can postpone activities and events to another date in 2020 should plan to do so. If you are unable to follow through with your proposed program due to COVID-19, you are not required to pay back any expenses that you have already incurred. You are expected to respect the contractual obligations you have made to pay artists and other workers and suppliers. However, if you were reimbursed for some expenses or did not use the full amount of your grant, you are required to pay back unspent amounts and provide accurate records and details in your Final Report to the City.
