Downtown Event Revitalization Funding

COVID-19 and your 2020 Downtown Event Grant

Recipients of Downtown Event and Revitalization Grants who can postpone activities and events to another date this year should plan to do so.  If you are unable to follow through with your proposed program due to COVID-19, you are not required to pay back any expenses that you have already incurred.  You are expected to respect the contractual obligations you have made to pay artists and other workers and suppliers.  However, if you were reimbursed for some expenses or did not use the full amount of your grant, you are required to pay back unspent amounts and provide accurate records and details in your Downtown Event Grant Final Report to the City.  Our team in Culture & Events is available to answer your questions and discuss how to best adapt your project.

---------------

The Downtown Event Revitalization Funding Program (Downtown Event Grants) supports events and initiatives which attract residents and visitors to the Downtown, support the vibrancy of the Downtown, and stimulate business activity.

Funds can be used to assist with the costs of staging annual, festive, outdoor public events in Downtown Nanaimo. The intention of the grant is to recognize the value annual events have in building vitality in the Downtown and enhancing Nanaimo’s profile as a destination of choice. The grants serve as an incentive to event organizers to enhance, expand and improve their events.  Applications are received once per year.
