Hammond Bay Area Utility and Transportation Upgrades
Project Description
The Hammond Bay Area Utility and Transportation Upgrades includes the replacement and upsizing of approximately 1,000m of sanitary sewer and 100m of watermain. Upgrading these utilities will improve reliability of the sewer system and remove the maintenance requirements that currently exist. The watermain replacement will improve drinking water quality.
Additional construction work includes road paving and the upgrading of the existing traffic signals on Hammond Bay Road at the intersections of both Turner Road and Rutherford Road.
The work will take place in various locations and is expected to last until the Summer of 2026.
General Considerations
During this construction period, traffic disruptions can be expected and single lane alternating traffic will be in effect on Hammond Bay Road between Sealand Road and Turner Road.
Workhours are Monday to Friday, 7am - 7pm.
Every effort will be made to keep local disruptions to a minimum.
Construction signs will be posted and flagpersons will be on duty to manage the traffic flow.
Please exercise caution, obey all signage placed for your safety and follow the directions of the flagpersons on duty.
If you have young children, please advise them of the dangers and limited visibility of heavy equipment and trucks.
To avoid construction traffic delays on Hammond Bay Road and Turner Road, going south take Rutherford Road and Uplands Drive or going north take Brickyard Road, Waldbank Road, Dover Road and Uplands Drive.
Permanent road paving of Hammond Bay Road (westbound) between Turner Road and Kenwill Drive was completed in the first week of December 2025.
The second stage of this project will re-commence week beginning Tuesday 17 February, 2026 and all construction works are planned to be completed by July 2026.
During the 2nd stage construction period, traffic disruptions can be expected and single lane alternating traffic will be in effect on Hammond Bay Road between Brickyard Road and Turner Road intersection.
McGirr Road and Turner Road will also have single lane alternating traffic will be in effect as the traffic signals at the intersection of Hammond Bay Road, Turner Road and McGirr Road will be turned off and manually controlled. Construction works at this intersection start on 17 February and will last for at least a minimum of 10 weeks.
Rutherford Road intersection with Hammond Bay Road is to have the traffic signal poles and traffic signal lights replaced. Once the signal works are complete the entire intersection will be repaved, and unfortunately this work will cause delays to drivers. This work is scheduled to commence on 4 March, 2026 and will last 4 weeks, taking advantage of lighter traffic volumes during the school spring break period at the end of March. Single lane alternating traffic will be in effect as the traffic signals at the intersection of Hammond Bay Road and Rutherford Road will be turned off.
