"Satellite City" To Be Unveiled on May 12

Summary

Satellite City, an acrylic on canvas painting by local artist Robert Naish, is set to be unveiled as a kickoff to Public Art Week (May 12-16). The 6'x9' painting was donated to the City of Nanaimo in 2013 by the estate of Ms. Marlene Flater, an arts supporter who passed away in 2011. The artist used a variety of household objects to plot out spaces on the canvas, using a paint gun to overlap the shapes and creating a layered effect that did not require the use of a paint brush. The painting will be installed in the Ballroom Lobby of the Vancouver Island Conference Centre (VICC).

The unveiling will take place in the VICC Ballroom Lobby on Monday May 12, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm, with a short ceremony at 5:15 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Link to Strategic Plan: Installation of Satellite City furthers the goals of the Cultural Vitality (Creativity, Diversity, Heritage and Innovation) pillar of the City's Strategic Plan by continuing to support the downtown core as an Arts District.
