Early warning by security systems save two homes

Working smoke alarms save homes and occupants

Summary

City of Nanaimo Fire Rescue is emphasizing the importance of working smoke alarms after two homes in the Westwood and Hillside neighbourhoods of Nanaimo were saved thanks to having working smoke alarms installed. An early warning was provided to occupants of the homes through smoke detectors tied to the homes security systems.

Occupants were also alerted and evacuated as a result of working smoke alarms. Nanaimo Fire crews were able to extinguish fires early before serious damage to both homes could occur. As a result, families in both homes were able to return to their homes without the need to relocate.
