Street entertainer permits available to perform on City owned property

Are you a musician or entertainer with some spare time looking to earn extra income? Or, who just loves to be in the spotlight making people smile. With the issuance of a valid street entertainer permit from the City of Nanaimo, musicians or performers who enjoy providing entertainment to the public have the opportunity to utilize the numerous City owned public locations set out in schedule A of the street entertainers bylaw available online at www.nanaimo.ca, under the bylaw section.

Key Points

  • To perform on City of Nanaimo property you are required to hold a valid street entertainers permit and follow the regulations set out in "STREET ENTERTAINERS REGULATION BYLAW 2011 NO. 7109".
  • No person, street entertainer or street entertainment group shall perform at any entertainer location during or for the duration of any event that has been scheduled to take place by the City or any organization that has been permitted by the City to hold an event or rent a park.
  • No person, street entertainer or street entertainment group shall perform in any entertainment location for a single continuous time exceeding two (2) hours per day.

  • There are currently 19 active group entertainer permits consisting of two or more entertainers and 86 active individual street entertainer permits consisting of one entertainer.
  • A street entertainer permit can be obtained for $25 annually.
  • Street Entertainer identification badges must be clearly displayed to the public while the street entertainer or street entertainment group is performing.
