Steps Begin to Replace Fire Station 1
The City will provide a Municipal Security Issuing Resolution and Agreement with the Regional District to borrow $3,235,354 from the Municipal Finance Authority of BC as part of the first phase of borrowing for the Fire Station 1 rebuild.
Section 8 a

Committee recommendations
Travel Assistance Grants were approved for $250 for five players from the Vancouver Island Premier League Upper Island Storm U18 Boys Soccer and $550 for eleven players from the Vancouver Island Premier League Upper Island Storm U17 Girls Soccer to attend the BC Provincials Soccer Championships in Richmond, BC. 

Funding of $656 to assist the Haven Society for 2018 summer activities and a Heritage Façade Grant of a $9,715.13 for the Merchant’s Bank of Canada building on 499 Wallace Street to update the building’s exterior were approved. 

Permissive Tax Exemptions were approved for the Felice Cavallotti Lodge for the 2019 tax year and the Nanaimo Unique Kids Organization (NUKO) in the amount of $12,715 for 2018 (pro-rated from March 2018-December 2018) and 2019 tax years.

2017 SOFI Report 
The 2017 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI) has been release and will be filed with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The questions and responses from the discussion about the SOFI report will be included in the Council meeting minutes.

Development around Nanaimo
Development Variance permits were issued for 5536 Noye Road, 2178 Lanashire Drive, 5030 Hammond Bay Road and 5414 Bayshore Drive. 

Approval in Principle was given to dispose of City-owned land at 897 Albert Street and 474 and 478 Pine Street to Habitat for Humanity for $1.00. 

A Highway Closure and Dedication Removal Bylaw for a lane adjacent to  897 Albert Street and 474 and 478 Pine Street passed two readings.
Sections 10 a - f

Bylaw updates
The bylaws to amend the Official Community Plan to include the Port Drive Waterfront Master Plan and to amend the General Election Bylaw to add a nomination deposit and increase the number of qualified nominators were adopted. 

The bylaws to amend the Official Community Plan to re-designate a portion of 801,1150 and 1151 Nanaimo Lakes Road from Resource Protection to Parks and Open Space and to dedicate land for park purposes were not adopted.

An update regarding any actions taken from the recommendations in Core Services Review will be completed.
