Delegations

Kim Fowler and members of the Nanaimo Food Hub Steering Committee spoke regarding the Nanaimo Food Hub which will begin hosting a night market on Fridays between 4-7 pm beginning June 27 at the Discover Montessori School on Jingle Pot Road.
Section 11a

Diana Johnstone and Jenn Houtby-Ferguson, President and Director of the Nanaimo 2025 55+ BC Games Society, provided an update on the 55+ BC Games taking place September 9-13, 2025. Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles and those interested are encouraged to reach out to sign up.
Section 11b

Reports

Kim Smythe (Nanaimo Youth Resilience Strategy Steering Committee Chair), Eutah Mizushima (Youth Outreach Worker, Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society), Esraa Sayes (youth participant), Brett Hancock (Principal, Learning Alternatives, SD68) and Milly Enwood (youth participant) provided an update on initiatives related to the Nanaimo Youth Resilience Strategy.  
Section 12a

Council approved the 2024 Annual Municipal Report which highlights the City’s accomplishments, objectives and services offered.
Section 12b

Council accepted the 2024 Statement of Financial Information for filing with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
Section 12c

Council directed staff to discharge covenant EE119175 from the property titles of 1179 Seafield Crescent. This will allow for a medical/dental office to operate on the property.
Section 12d

Staff presented Council with an overview of the Woodgrove Area Plan project Phase 1 Engagement results and the Phase 2 Growth Scenarios Assessment findings.
Section 12e

An application to rezone 1850 Boxwood Road, to facilitate a complex care housing development, passed two readings. A public hearing will be held prior to third reading being considered.
Section 12f

An application to rezone 5190, 5196 and a portion of 5200 Rutherford Road, to allow for a multi-family residential development, passed three readings.
Section 12g

Council approved Licence of Use Agreements for a Telus-owned 46m telecommunications monopole at 2020 Labieux Road and two 15m telecommunications streetlight/antenna poles adjacent to the Rutherford Road/Linley Valley Drive roundabout. Council then directed staff to provide letters of concurrence to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada for the poles at both locations.

Bylaw Updates

“Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2024 No. 4500.225” (to rezone 330 and 338 Ninth Street from Single Dwelling Residential [R1] to Low Density Residential [R6] with a site-specific Floor Area Ratio) was adopted.
Section 13a

Correspondence

Council discussed correspondence received from the Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs regarding funding for daytime drop-in spaces and programming for unsheltered individuals in Nanaimo.
