Mayor’s Report
Mayor Krog with attend the Mid-island Business Initiative Launch event in Vancouver in January 2019 and the Symposium on Water Stewardship in a Changing Climate in April 2019 in Parksville. 

Councillors Armstrong, Bonner, Hemmens and Thorpe with attend the Local Government Leadership Academy in Parksville in February 2019.

Reviewing Council pay
Council’s salaries will be adjusted to account for the elimination of a Federal tax exemption for members of Council. The Council Spending and Amenities policy will be amended to adjust compensation annually by the BC Annual Percent Consumer Price Index to a maximum of two per cent. And, an independent Council Remuneration task force will be struck in 2019 to review Council compensation and the amenities and spending policy and submit recommendations no later than January 2021.

The 2019-2023 Financial Plan bylaw passed three readings.

Grant application for Port Theatre 
An application will be submitted for funding from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program for the Port Theatres Performing Arts Centre.

Public art program continues in 2019
A total of 10 artwork submissions were selected to be placed in public spaces in 2019 for the City’s Temporary Public Art program.

Gifting property
A property located at 603 Nottingham Drive has been gifted to the City to add to its park inventory.

Lease extensions
The VIEX has another 25 years at Beban Park with an approval of a lease for their exhibition grounds and the Nanaimo Equestrian Association has a 10-year lease for the grounds at the Beban Park Equestrian Centre.

Leasing Search and Rescue headquarters
The City and Nanaimo Search and Rescue will enter into a Letter of Intent to formalize a long-term lease at 191 and 195 Fourth Street.

Development around Nanaimo
Development variance permits were issued for 125 Front Street, 550 Seventh Street, 3135 Mexicana Road and 124 Tait Road.

A Rezoning application for 5400 Dewer Road and 5431 Redmond Road and a road closure application for part of Redmond Road passed two readings.

Bylaw Updates
The Sewer Regulation and Charge Amendment, Waterworks Rate and Regulation Amendment, South West Bulk Water Rate Amendment, Municipal Solid Waste Collection Amendment and three Housing Agreement bylaws were adopted.
