Financial Reliefs
Organizations that occupy City facilities which have been closed and/or severely impacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be granted temporary relief from lease and rental payments.
Section 8a

The due date for property taxes remains July 2, 2020; however, the date for tax penalties has been extended to October 1, 2020 (5% penalty) and November 12, 2020 (5% penalty), applicable on any outstanding current year tax balances on those dates.

Claire Negrin has been appointed Deputy Subdivision Approving Officer.
Section 8c

Development Around Nanaimo
In light of health advisories surrounding COVID-19 and Provincial guidelines on physical distancing, Public Hearings are currently cancelled. As a result, the motions previously made regarding the Covenant Amendment Application for 6340 McRobb Ave. were recinded. Staff will proceed with public notification, but without a Public Hearing, prior to Council’s consideration of the application at an upcoming meeting.

A development variance permit has been issued at 2665 Lynburn Crescent, to allow for a proposed addition to an existing residence.
Section 8e

A development variance permit has been issued at 27 Milton Street, to allow for the construction of an additional storey to an existing residence.

A rezoning application for 5801 Turner Road was deferred to the Monday May 4th Council meeting
Section 8g

An amended Revitalization Tax Exemption Agreement for a proposed 27-unit mixed-use building at 507 Milton Street was approved.
Section 8h

Bylaw Updates
“Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2019 No. 4500.162” (To rezone 847 Bruce Avenue to allow “Cannabis Retail Store” as a site-specific use in the Neighbourhood Centre [CC2] zone) was adopted
Section 9a

“Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2020 No. 4500.173” (To remove the definition for ‘Drug Addiction Treatment Facility’, amend the definition of ‘Office Medical/Dental’ to exclude Supervised Consumption Sites, and add a definition for Supervised Consumption Sites) was adopted.
Section 9b

"Revenue Anticipation Borrowing Bylaw 2020 No. 7308" (To provide for temporary borrowing of funds required to meet the current lawful expenditures of the City of Nanaimo) was adopted.
