Mayor's Report

Tribute to Marianne Turley
Marianne was a longtime volunteer to the arts and culture in Nanaimo. She was a champion of the Vancouver Island Symphony as a donor, fundraiser, planner, board member, leader and advocate. Our deepest condolences to Councillor Turley, the family and all who knew Marianne.

Reports to Council

BC Ferries Electrification Project Letter of Support
Council endorsed the Letter of Support being forwarded to BC Ferries to aid in securing Federal funding for the BC Ferries Electrification Project.

Appointment of Bylaw Enforcement Officer
Garry McHady was appointed as a Bylaw Enforcement Officer to enforce the provisions of City of Nanaimo “Licencing and Control of Animals Bylaw 1995 No. 4923” and “Parks, Recreation and Culture Regulation Bylaw 2008 No. 7073".

Development Permit Application No. DP1142 - 135, 139, 147, 151 Haliburton Street and 940 Milton Street
Development Permit No. DP1142 at 135, 139, 147, 151 Haliburton Street and 940 Milton Street was issued with the following variances:

  • to increase the maximum allowable building height from 14.0m to 15.8m
  • to reduce the minimum front yard setback for an underground parking structure from 1.80m to 0.75m

Correspondence dated 2021-JAN-13, from Geoff Bowlby, Director General, Census Management Office, Statistics Canada, re: 2021 Census of Population
Council supports the 2021 Census and encourages all residents to complete their census questionnaire online at www.census.gc.ca. Accurate and complete census data support programs and services that benefit our community.
