Smoke alarm alerts residents in early morning fire

Summary

An early morning fire on August 1, 2017 forced five residents from their home on Beach Dr. Nanaimo Fire crews quickly contained the fire and limited the amount of damage to the residence. The smoke alarm in the home notified the occupants of the fire while they were sleeping and allowed them time to exit and call 9-1-1. Two men were treated on scene for smoke inhalation by BC ambulance but were not transported to hospital. Fire investigators will be on scene this morning to determine the cause of the fire.
