Dave Devana, President and CEO of the Nanaimo Airport Commission, provided an update regarding the Nanaimo Airport (YCD).

Committee Recommendations

Recommendations from the September 25, 2024 Finance and Audit Committee meeting:

  • Council directed staff to prepare a report outlining the cost implications of waiving the building permit fee and service contribution agreement payment for the new Loaves and Fishes warehouse distribution centre located at 1861 East Wellington Road.
  • Council directed staff to fund a temporary, full-time position for approximately 12 months in the Sustainability Section.
  • Council approved a realignment of the Vancouver Island Military Museum operating model.
  • Council approved a $2,634 Community Watershed Restoration Grant for John Barsby School for the Chase River Stewardship and Riparian Area Restoration project.
  • A decision point will be added for Council to consider increasing the City’s Culture grant funding (project and operating grants) during their 2025 budget deliberations.
  • Council directed staff to submit two grant applications for the Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant Program as outlined in this staff report.

A Development Variance Permit was issued for 1355 Townsite Road, to allow for a two-lot subdivision.
Section 12a

A Rezoning Application for 1415 Loat Street, to allow for a multi-family residential development, passed three readings.
Section 12b

Staff provided a report outlining information and options regarding regulating vacant properties.
