Get ready to Sort Toss Roll!

Automated garbage and recycling collection services to begin in central Nanaimo

Phase 1 of Sort Toss Roll, the new automated solid waste collection service is almost ready to "roll" out in central Nanaimo. Starting at the end of October, homes in this area will be switching over to the new service and, to get ready, specially designed carts will be delivered to each household between October 10 and 27.

A smooth transition to starting this new service can be expected. Manager of Sanitation, Recycling and Public Works Administration, Charlotte Davis explains, "Residents really don't need to do anything. Carts will be delivered automatically in advance of their first automated collection day with an information package explaining how to use them."

Homes in the area will begin to receive the new service between October 23 and November 3. A special symbol has been included on the new garbage calendars being delivered to homes next week indicating when residents should start using their new carts.

More information on this new service can be found on the City website at www.nanaimo.ca/goto/SortTossRoll. Residents who have additional questions or concerns can call the Sort Toss Roll hotline at 250-756-5390 or email SortTossRoll@Nanaimo.ca.
