Sign Bylaw
The City of Nanaimo Sign Bylaw 1987 No. 2850 regulates putting up signs in the City.
See the Sign Bylaw 1987 No. 2850.
Signs erected on City owned property
Bylaw Enforcement Officers will proactively and reactively work to remove signage when illegally erected. There are several minor exemptions in the Bylaw that allow some signs on City owned property, such as temporary election signage. The person putting up or owning the sign can be fined.
Signs erected on private property
The bylaw regulates the types, sizes and locations of signage based on zoning and location within the City. For more information regarding what signs are permitted, you can contact the City of Nanaimo Planning Division at (250) 755-4429.
