For Immediate Release

City of Nanaimo Receives Community Excellence Award

The City of Nanaimo was successful in winning a UBCM (Union of BC Municipalities) Community Excellence Award in the category of Local Government and First Nations Partnerships for our tripartite agreement among the Snuneymuxw First Nation (SFN), the Province (MOE) and the City in recognition of the Newcastle Island Agreement.

Councillor Diane Brennan attended the UBCM Awards Breakfast in Penticton on Thursday, September 25 to receive the Community Excellence Award.

Protocol Agreement Working Group members Mayor Gary Korpan, Councillors Diane Brennan and Bill Holdom, and Newcastle Island Management Board member Councillor Merv Unger are all thrilled with the recognition.

The City looks forward to celebrating the award with our partner, the SFN, soon.

This is tangible recognition of the goodwill and hardwork of those officials and staff whose labour and tenacity resulted in the agreement.
