Nanaimo RCMP Detachment
Community Policing Section (CPS)

Service delivery is based on the Community Policing concept which emphasizes community partnerships to maintain "safe homes and safe communities."

In addition to the main police office situated downtown, three Community Policing Offices are in operation in the Downtown, North Nanaimo and Cedar neighbourhoods.

The success of Community Policing in Nanaimo can be attributed, in part, to the nearly one hundred highly skilled and trained community volunteers who assist with the Community Policing Offices and associated Crime Prevention initiatives.

Community Policing

The goal of the Community Policing Office is to help fulfill the RCMP's commitment to work in partnership with the community by sharing the delivery of policing services. To achieve this goal, Community Policing Offices are intended to be user-friendly interfaces for the RCMP where the general public is invited to direct a variety of police or crime related inquiries or initiate non-emergency crime reports. Volunteer Opportunities

The CPO program is looking for people who want to contribute time to their community and the police. If you can answer yes to the following questions and pass the security screening required by the RCMP, you might find the Community Policing Office rewarding. Are you at least 19 year of age and a resident of the area? Have no criminal record? Can you work cooperatively with other people? Can you commit 4 hours per week for a period of one year? Do you have good writing and speaking skills?
