The City of Nanaimo is policed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police under a Municipal Police Unit Agreement with the BC Minister of Justice.

Also working as part of the Nanaimo police team are two Municipal Enforcement Officers whose primary function is to enforce "Traffic and Highways Regulation Bylaw 1993 NO. 5000" and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act.
