QR Codes

Have you ever seen these funny looking black and white shapes (shown here) displayed in various publications, signs or online? They are called QR Codes, and they have the potential to provide a lot of information in a short amount of time.

What is a QR Code?

A QR Code is a two-dimensional barcode that represents a website, text or other information.  It is then read by QR Code scanner, or in most cases, a smartphone where a QR Code app has been downloaded.

How can I read a QR Code?

If you are the owner of a smartphone, you need to go to the downloadable application area for your phone and search for a QR Code reader.  You should be able to find several free apps. Run the app and then hold your phone's camera over a QR Code to read it. Most QR Codes will direct you to web page.

Why use QR Codes?

QR Codes are a quick and easy way to link offline information to online content which means that users can get additional information often in multi-media format. It also allows users to directly get to a website without having to remember the URL (website) address or search through a search engine.
