Wentworth Bikeway Project

A key strategic direction of The City of Nanaimo’s Transportation Master Plan is to “make cycling a safe, comfortable, enjoyable, and normal transportation choice for residents of all ages and abilities”.  One of the ways which this strategy is implemented is to create a cycling network.  Planned for construction in 2016, the Wentworth Bikeway connects Wallace Street and the downtown area to Third Street and the Parkway Trail.  The bikeway has dedicated bike lanes on the Jingle Pot Road and Second Street sections and shared use lanes on the Wentworth Street section.  A traffic circle is planned for the intersection of Kennedy Street and Wentworth Street to provide traffic calming in the areas where the roadway designated as shared use.  Minor improvements to pedestrian and bus stop facilities have been included as part of the project.
