Vimy Ridge Day is a day to commemorate the deaths and casualties of members of the Canadian Corps in the Battle of Vimy Ridge (northern France), which took place during the First World War. This four-day successful battle by the Canadians was essential to the advances by the British against the Germans. This was declared by the Government of Canada and has been observed annually on April 9 since 2003. It is a non-statutory observance. The flag at City Hall will be lowered to half-mast in respect.
