National Lifejacket Day 2019

May 16 is National Lifejacket Day. Join us at the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre for this annual event aimed to encourage and promote the use of lifejackets and personal floatation devices when on or near the water. The City of Nanaimo and Canadian Red Cross are working together to educate everyone on the importance of lifejacket safety.

- Swim in the pool with aquatic staff
- Learn the characteristics of a lifejacket
- Learn how to wear your lifejacket safely
- Practice entries and movements in the water with a lfiejacket on

*Did you know* Every year, 161 Canadians drown while boating? Of these, 87% are not wearing a lifejacket or do not have it properly secured.
