The City of Nanaimo is policed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police under a Municipal Police Unit Agreement with the BC Minister of Justice.

The policing priorities for 2022-2023 are:

  • Crime Reduction and Community Safety
  • Inclusion and Reconciliation
  • Community Consultation

Also working as part of the Nanaimo police team are two Municipal Enforcement Officers whose primary function is to enforce the Traffic and Highways Regulation Bylaw and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act.
